LearnGIS (https://vector.geospatial.science) is operated by the Geospatial Science Department to deliver course materials and lab assignments. This policy explains what information the site collects when you sign in with Google, how it is used, and how you can have it removed.
Information we access from Google
When you sign in with Google, we receive your first and last name, your email address, and your Google account ID. We request only basic sign-in permissions (email, profile, and openid). We do not access your Gmail, Google Drive, Calendar, contacts, or any other Google data.
Information you provide on the site
- Account information: Your account name is set when your account is created. You can change your display name at any time. To change your account name, contact your professor.
- Profile picture: If you upload one, it is stored and displayed on your profile until you remove it or your account is deleted.
- Lab submissions: Text answers and screenshots you submit for labs. Screenshots may incidentally show information from your computer, such as your computer name or user name. Please crop or avoid including personal information you do not want stored.
- Lab grades: The points you earn on lab assignments.
How we use your information
We use this information only to create and identify your account, log you in, accept and grade your lab work, record your grades, and provide course-related features of the site. We do not use it for advertising, marketing, profiling, or sale, and we do not use it to train or develop artificial intelligence or machine learning models.
Who can see your information
Your lab submissions and grades are visible to you and to the instructor and site administrator. Your display name and profile picture may be visible to other signed-in users of the site. We do not sell, rent, or transfer your information to third parties. We disclose information only if required by law.
How we protect your information
The site is served over HTTPS. Data is stored on a private server with restricted administrative access, and we keep the site software and server updated. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Retention and deletion
Lab submissions (text answers and screenshots) and lab grades are kept for one year and then deleted. Account information (name, email, Google ID, and profile picture) is kept while your account is active and deleted one year after the course ends. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting [contact email]. You can also revoke this site’s access to your Google account at https://myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle Google user data, we will update this page and the date above.
